About This Content The stunning plains and valley passes of Utah make Soldier Summit one of the best loved mountain passes of the western United States. At the crest of the Wasatch Plateau, Soldier Summit is a 69 mile broad valley pass joining the communities of Helper and Provo, and is the highest point on the Denver and Rio Grande railroad in Utah. Discovered by Franciscan priests and used by Native Americans before them, the pass has been an important transportation route for many years.Today, the summit is a popular photo spot for railfans, and the Gilluly loops - a series of horseshoe curves - on the western approach to the summit provide spectacular scenes as heavy freight trains power their way up the pass, a challenging drive for all railroad engineers and one that makes Soldier Summit an epic US rail route.Included with the route is a Rio Grande SD40T-2 diesel locomotive, the famous F40PH ‘California Zephyr’, and Rio Grande GP9 road switcher.ScenariosSeven scenarios for the route:Eastbound Zephyr: Part 1Eastbound Zephyr: Part 2Provo Yard DutiesSupply and DemandPart 1 – Provo to DetourPart 2 – Detour to HelperPrice River RunMore scenarios are available on Steam Workshop online and in-game. Love all the rock textures which look realistic and the winter weather system where going from a snow storm to a blizzard where you can hardly see the nose of the loco in front of you. I would like to know where the bare hills are as posted by a previous reviewer. Adjust your settings or get a new computer.. This is the Best route ever and there is a alot of scenery, and it comes with a Amtrak F40PH Locomotive, a Rio Grande SD40T-2, and last the GP9 in Rio Grande livery.. This route has no problems, nothing I wish they had done and did not, and is almost axactly like real life. The amount of work that went in to this is insane, just be glad its not selling for 50 $s, even then its worth it.Pros: Comes with a good F40 AMTK and California Zepher train set.Good braking realism. Increadble scenery. I have not gotten the Feather River Canyon yet, I suspect its only second to that.Stupid fast for 2% grades. Probly the hardest route to navigate for that reason alone.I always love a 70s era route. They did the Rio Grand well. I like the SD40T-2 its fun to drive. As for the GP9 there are no updates but ive been driving the GP9 so long for my route I dont really care anymore. The only problem can easyly be dissmised as nitpicking: At Provo the route ends to soon. no biggie, I did the same for mine nobody seemed to notice.10\/10 Completely awsome in every aspect.. Nice route, great AI, challeging climbs and descents and great scenery.GP9 sound is a bit on the light side, but is acceptable. I see three GP9s each day switching at the Kinnear yard in Hamilton Ontario and make an easy comparison just by listening to them rumble by my house. As for cons, well the track bed could be from the London Brighton route and is only so so. The other thing I noted from restarting a saved game is that regardless of the grade of the line or power setting, the speed surges and you need to be pretty quick to get it in check. This is quite different from any of the overhead electric lines where the brakes are on full force when restarting from a save.I got this and two other routes in the Epic Journeys package in the sale and as such represents great value.Apart from its little quirks, I think that it's one of those routes all should have.As far as performance goes, I have found that a solid state hard drive yields flawless function at max detail with a 2GB vid card and 8GB of ram.Addendum:One thing that irks me with this route and many others to be honest, is the statement, "More scenarios are available on Steam Workshop online and in-game."Yet if you search for such extra scenarios, you'll find out, much like I did that there are none to be found.Implying that your purchase will be enhanced by such free Workshop scenarios when there are none, is, if not dishonest then misleading and overly optimistic. One wonders as to how DTG can be so cavalier in making such a statement in such litigious times.Unless supported by actual knowledge of such extra scenarios, this statement should be removed. If however, some smarter soul can point me in the direction for scenarios for Soldier Summit, I would be grateful.. i recommend this because of how smooth it runs on a piece of **** computer the SD40T-2 is WAYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYY MORE DETAILED THAN THE ONE ON Donner Pass. I don't know what the problem is, since all my other Train Simulator routes run good, but Soldier Summit has terrible frame rates on my PC. I've got an overclocked i53570K and a GTX780 that can't handle this route for some reason. I turned shadows, and viewing distance down. I have the 3D weather turned off. There are other routes with lots of detail that run fine on my machine, so lots of detail in Soldier Summit isn't the problem.. excellent add on, works great and has multiple and diverse missions. Very interesting. I really love this route. Amazing landscapes, Very extensive yard operations areas, with varied industries. Tough climbs and loops. Very funny.. The Rio Grande at it's best come along for the ride and enjoy america's epic route over Soldier Summit. Beginning at Helper the Soldier Summit route crest the 7,447 foot pass on a 2% grade. Visit the yards of Utah Railway in Martin Utah and Helper Yard and put the namesake engines on to the rear of the trains to get them over the pass. Visit Nolan Tunnel and Kyune and the sidings at Lynn. Visit the Ghost Town of Castle Gate and see how Utah moves it's coal. Visit the Scofield Branch at Colton and cross 7,447 foot Soldier Summit. Wrap around all three levels of Gilluly Loop and visit Tucker Siding and Detour which pass underneath Highway 6. Snake your way through the Narrows where sharp bends are along the way. And visit the landslides of Thistle Tunnel where Rio Grande had to carve out a new tunnel out of a mountain after a landslide in 1983 buried the line. Locomotives featured are the legendary Tunnel Motors which Rio Grande uses in helper service, GP9s which were used on locals until Rio Grande replaced them in the 80s with the Tunnel Motors, and by far if you are looking for passenger locomotives you will find them here with the star of the show The Silver Lady herself Amtrak #6 The California Zephyr. You'll find that's all and more in Dovetail Games Soldier Summit. Enjoy the ride rail fans and enjoy my faverite railroad.. The Route is Amazing, For it's Hard to play because of the SD40T-2, GP9, and Rolling Stock ( Sometimes the Scenery) being highly Detailed which cause the Sim to LAG on my Computer.
